How did God lead you into serving here at CTC?

My very first trip to CTC was last year in July. God gave me this love and compassion in my heart for the people here. I met the interns that were here at the time and they told me what the internship was all about. I started coming every other month with my church on short mission trips, then I began to come more often with a couple from my church to visit people that had became my friends and to help out with anything needed. In December of last year I started praying about the internship. I had no idea how it was going to happen. God started to work in my heart and prepare me for where I am now. In March of this year I went on a youth missions trip to Thailand. This is where God revealed to me His plan for me to begin the internship in Mexico. I prayed about the internship constantly while in Thailand. I had a meeting with my youth pastor and we both felt this calling on our hearts. When I got home I started the process of raising support, speaking with Brennan and getting everything I needed ready to come here. I came down June of this year and am now in my 6th month of being an intern. I have peace in my heart because I know this is where God wants me to be.

Has God placed a certain call on your life?

A certain calling that the Lord has shown me while being here is to disciple other women, from young to old, in Spanish. God showed this to me while I was in a devotion with a team that was here. God laid it on my heart and confirmed it by giving me opportunities to disciple. The first opportunity he gave me happened at a local rehab center with a team from Calvary Chapel Las Vegas. We all had a bible study together about how important the word of God is. After the bible study, we got into groups and prayed for each other. I stood back and let the team go into groups with the girls, but then I saw one of the girls from the rehab center with a woman from the team. She was crying, so I figured I would sit with them and see what was wrong. Before this, I had talked with the girl a few times, and sang songs with her. That is her favorite thing to do with us. I had never spent one on one time with her before because she only speaks Spanish. The woman and the girl were talking and the woman translated for me about what was wrong. The woman told me that the girl was sad because she did not have friends in the rehab center and that she was a ” nobody.”  After I heard that, my heart filled with compassion and love for her. We started praying for the girl and afterwards I got to talk with her one on one. I told her that she is never alone and that I will always be her friend because she is my sister in Christ. I told her even when I am not there with her that Jesus will ALWAYS be there! That he is the greatest friend we could ever have. Part of this amazing experience with her was that everything I told her was in Spanish! I had been praying for God to use me as an encouragement to someone here to confirm the calling He has for me, and God totally used me and spoke through me to help her. Now her and I talk every time we go to the rehab center and I have become a friend that she trusts and can talk to. I pray that the Lord will continue using me in this way to encourage other women. Praise God!

How did God lead you into serving here at CTC?

Leading up to high school graduation this year I had plans to go to university and study speech pathology. However, those were my own plans, and not God’s. I was here in Tijuana on a 10 day trip with my church when God started showing me that He had another idea for me. God began closing doors for me to go to university, all while I was in Tijuana.  I was confused by what He was doing, so I began praying and asking Him what He wants for me this time. He introduced me to the internship here. I went back home to Canada and spent a month praying about God’s vision for me after graduation, and He confirmed it again and again for me that I need to serve at CTC. So I sent in my application… and now I’m here.  I’m growing so much closer to God, His plans are always better than ours and bring us to places where we can grow with Him.

Has God placed a certain call on your life?

Over the past few months God has revealed pieces of His plan for me and has showed me the call that He has for me within being His servant. God has given me a burden for those who are struggling and need healing. God has revealed to me His call on my life to counsel the lost and to comfort others with the Word of God. He has shown me this through prayer and scripture in Ezekiel 2-3:15. God showed me that He is sending me to a people who aren’t so keen to hear His voice but that I  have to take courage because He is going to fill me with His word, all for His glory. I have no reason to fear because I will need to rely entirely on God but that that is the best place to be, resting in His embrace. After all, He says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted,” In Matthew 5.

He also showed me this further on in Ezekiel in chapter 37, God gives Ezekiel a vision of a valley of bones and tells him, “Say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am God.” (Ezekiel 37:4-6) He told me that His call for my life is to, in love and armed with the truth, speak life back into those who are broken and rebellious, all by God’s great power. I know that ultimately His plan is that I am closer to Him, and that this is the good, pleasing and perfect will that He has for me.

How did God lead you into serving here at CTC?

One day while I was in worshiping, the song, “Oceans,” came on and as I sang the chorus:  Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander”

I heard the Spirit speak to me and say “I am going to take you somewhere where you do not want to go…are you sure you want this?” I said yes Lord, I will follow. That night my pastor called me into his office and told me “we are sending you to Mexico, you leave in a month!” I agreed hesitantly and throughout that month I was terrified because I had to leave what I knew and go to a foreign place. When I met Brennan for the first time prior to me becoming to be an intern, God confirmed this is what He had for me and this is where He wanted me to be. He told me this would be a season of growing and healing. This calmed any fear I had because I knew God would go with me and I would have to rely on Him completely.

Has God placed a certain call on your life?

I believe God has called me into Ministry, to seek out the lost and bring them into the fold of God. To build up the church for the equipping and edifying of the saints for the work of the ministry. I know God has ordained me and set me apart to serve Him and to give my life as an offering to the King. My call is to serve my Master faithfully with everything.

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” (John 15:16)

A friend told me about CPI, the annual church planting course that they host at CTC La Gloria. Towards the end of the course, Brennan and Angelina invited me to take the internship.

Has God placed a certain call on your life?

God has placed a burden in my heart, and I believe, a call on my life to serve in missions, and specifically in translating. God has given me a passion to see the lost saved, in the context of other cultures. From a young age, cultures have always interested me and the Lord has given me a fascination with languages. My dream is to work in bible translation for the people groups God may lead me to in Asia, and the rest of the world.

Another call God has given me is in worship. The Lord has ministered in my heart greatly through the music and worship of others, and it played a huge role in my salvation. I desire to live out this calling by living a worshipful life, that manifests itself in music that the Lord uses to convict, heal, and bring new life.

How did God lead you into serving here at CTC?

I was introduced to Calvary Training Center through my short terms missions team that I first came along with in March 2015. From the moment I got here, I felt at home. I never experienced what is commonly known as culture shock and fell in love with the ministry here at CTC and the community in La Gloria. God showed me so much during my first trip, He opened my eyes to what a life of service is and truly looks like. God placed it on my heart that one day I would be serving here, I did not know when, but I knew that this is what He wanted for me. I tried to come here Summer 2015, but God closed the doors for that opportunity, and I am so blessed that He did. I arrived here early September this year and it was in God’s perfect timing.

Has God placed a certain call on your life?

God recently placed it on my heart to one day be involved in a ministry where I would be sharing the gospel to people who have either rejected it or have never heard it at all. Evangelizing to people is not my strong suit and is something I struggle with but it is the area I feel most called to. It does not matter to me where I am in the world, I know that those details are all a part of God’s divine plan, and not my own. Wherever I am I want to be someone who comes alongside others, ministers to them and builds deep relationships with them. I don’t want to be the person that will share the gospel with someone and if they reject it walk away and move on, but be the person who sticks around, continues to love on them and gently share the truth and word of God.

While reading through 2 Timothy 4, I read these verses and God’s word confirmed the call He has for me:

“1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths….5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”
